Hazaribagh, May 18: The tragic death of Shweta Kumari, a student at Vivekananda School in Hazaribagh, has sparked a significant outcry. On Monday, her family and hundreds of local residents staged a protest at the school’s main gate, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Reports suggest that Shweta was subjected to undue pressure from a fellow student and threats from a teacher, leading her to take her own life by consuming poison.
The protest lasted for about an hour, during which demonstrators chanted slogans demanding justice for Shweta Kumari and called for immediate legal action against those responsible for her death.
Shweta, a 15-year-old girl, died under suspicious circumstances in the Bada Bazaar police area. Her father, Sanjay Gupta, claims that a student named Solange Rana had been harassing Shweta for nearly a month, exerting immoral pressure on her.
Family members also allege that a teacher, Pratibha Singh, had threatened Shweta over the phone. This dual harassment and immense stress reportedly drove her to consume poison. After her condition worsened, she was initially treated at Arogyam Hospital in Hazaribagh and later referred to Medanta Hospital in Ranchi, where she succumbed to her injuries on May 15.
Upon learning of the protest at the school gate, the Bada Bazaar police station chief arrived with a police force. BJP leader Amardeep Yadav and Neeraj Kumar from the Mukti Dham Seva Sansthan also engaged with the protesters and Shweta’s family.
Police and administrative officials assured the grieving family that a fair investigation would be conducted. They promised that the accused student and teacher would be arrested and placed in judicial custody within a week. Following this assurance, the protest concluded. The police have filed a case based on the father’s written statement and have intensified their investigation using technical and scientific evidence.
