Delhis Drainage Overhaul: CM Rekha Gupta Launches Key Development Projects

New Delhi, March 14: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated several significant development projects in the Shalimar Bagh assembly area on Saturday. She conducted an unscheduled inspection of ongoing works and directed officials to ensure quality and timeliness. Gupta emphasized that these initiatives would reduce flooding during the monsoon and strengthen the local infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also launched the remodeling of the stormwater drain on Haiderpur Main Road, from the bus stand to the D block in Shalimar Bagh. This project is part of the New Master Drain Plan 2025, which aims to enhance the area’s drainage system by constructing RCC drains. During her visit, Gupta reviewed the progress of various infrastructure, drainage, and public utility projects.

She noted that drainage improvement works have also commenced on Road Number 319, RUB Shalimar Bagh, Chaudhary Mehr Chand Marg, Road Number 320, and Swami Shraddhanand Saraswati Marg.

To streamline traffic at Shalimar Chowk, the Chief Minister initiated the construction of a slip road and the development of U-turns around the RUB. This initiative is expected to alleviate traffic pressure in the area, providing better and safer transit for local residents and travelers.

Additionally, Gupta inaugurated the Ayushman Arogya Mandir at the Chaupal in Sahepur village. This center will play a crucial role in providing primary health services to local residents, enhancing access to better healthcare facilities.

She also launched the remodeling of existing stormwater drains on Bhagwan Mahavir Marg and KL Bagga Marg. Under this project, precast factory-manufactured RCC drains will be constructed, aligning with the New Master Drain Plan 2025. This effort aims to make the drainage system more effective and reduce issues during rainfall.

With the inauguration of these projects, CM Rekha Gupta conducted an inspection of the ongoing road widening and drainage improvement works at Singlpur Labour Chowk in Shalimar Bagh. During the inspection, she sought detailed updates from the officials present and instructed them to ensure quality, transparency, and timeliness in development works. She stressed the importance of establishing a robust drainage system alongside road widening to provide a lasting solution to flooding issues in the area.

Gupta directed officials to pay special attention to the convenience of local residents during construction and to complete the projects within the stipulated time frame. She reiterated that the Delhi government is committed to strengthening roads, drainage, traffic, and health facilities across the capital. The government’s goal is to enhance infrastructure in every area of Delhi, ensuring better basic amenities for its citizens.
