Delhi Police Seeks Extension of Custody for Gangster Under MCOCA

New Delhi, June 17: The Delhi Police has requested a 10-day extension of custody for gangster Shabbir Chaudhary, also known as Shabbir Ali, who was arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The Patiala House Court has reserved its decision on this request.

During the hearing, Shabbir’s lawyer opposed the police’s demand for an extension, arguing that the police should first disclose what was achieved during the previous custody period. After completing three days of police custody, Shabbir was presented in court where the police sought additional time for questioning.

In the previous hearing, the police stated that further interrogation was necessary to locate other gang members and investigate assets acquired through criminal activities.

In a related development, the Delhi Police’s ongoing crackdown on criminals led to the arrest of two individuals involved in a cyber fraud case. The Eastern District Cyber Police exposed an organized cyber gang that deceived innocent people under the pretext of providing jobs abroad.

The arrested suspects lured unemployed youth and job seekers by promising them employment in reputable Japanese companies. According to police, this action was initiated based on a complaint from a victim who alleged that he was defrauded of ₹1.63 lakh with false promises of a job in Japan.

Following the complaint, an e-FIR was registered at the Eastern District Cyber Police station, leading to the dismantling of the organized cyber gang and the apprehension of the accused.
