Peaceful Observance of Muharram in Assam Highlights Communal Harmony

Guwahati, June 27: Muharram was observed with deep religious reverence, mourning, and peace across Assam on Friday. Various districts in the state hosted Tazia processions, prayers, and religious events. The participation of people from different faiths reinforced the tradition of communal harmony in the region.

The main event in Tinsukia district took place at the Central Margherita Eidgah ground, which was specially decorated for the occasion. A large number of devotees and locals took part in the religious activities.

A grand Tazia procession was the highlight of Muharram. This procession began at the Eidgah ground and traversed through various parts of the city via National Highway 315.

Participants in the procession included not only the Muslim community but also individuals from other religions, showcasing a spirit of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

Those in attendance prayed for world peace, communal harmony, and prosperity. People from diverse castes, communities, and linguistic backgrounds came together, sending a message of unity and mutual respect.

Organizers stated that this event once again strengthened Margherita’s long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and social harmony, where festivals are celebrated collectively by all communities.

Muharram was also peacefully observed in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Barpeta, Dhubri, Hailakandi, Sribhoomi, Cachar, Goalpara, and other parts of the state. Under tight security from local administration and police, Tazia processions, Majlis, religious gatherings, and special prayers were conducted.

A significant number of security forces were deployed in sensitive areas and along the procession routes. Traffic adjustments were made in several cities to ensure the smooth conduct of the processions.

Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. On this day, the Muslim community engages in mourning, worship, and various religious programs to honor their memories.

The peaceful observance of Muharram in Assam has once again highlighted the state’s tradition of communal harmony and mutual respect among various communities.
