Kallakurichi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Two luxury buses collided near Ulundurpet on the national highway in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, on October 2, injuring more than ten passengers. All the injured individuals were promptly admitted to the Ulundurpet government hospital for treatment.
According to reports, a luxury bus traveling from Chennai to Alangulam was passing a tea shop on the Ulundurpet bypass road when the bus in front suddenly braked. This unexpected stop led to a collision with the following bus.
Among the injured, one passenger suffered a severed toe. Emergency services were quick to transport the injured to the hospital. Local police, on patrol at the time, arrived on the scene to manage the situation and began clearing the damaged buses from the roadway.
The nighttime accident created a tense situation on the Ulundurpet bypass road, resulting in a significant traffic jam that stretched nearly two kilometers. Drivers faced considerable delays as police worked to control the traffic and alleviate the congestion.
To assist the affected passengers, alternative buses were arranged to ensure they could continue their journeys.
In a related incident earlier that week, a collision between a bus and a truck in Villupuram district resulted in one fatality. The bus, carrying 38 passengers from Pollachi to Chennai, crashed when the truck ahead made an abrupt right turn. The bus driver was unable to stop in time, leading to a tragic outcome. The truck fled the scene rapidly, further complicating the aftermath as two other trucks lost control and overturned in an attempt to avoid the collision.
Emergency responders quickly arrived to assist, removing the trapped individuals and sending the deceased to the Villupuram Mundiyambakkam Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. Some passengers from the bus sustained minor injuries during this incident as well.
