New Delhi, February 16: The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to comedian and veteran actor Rajpal Yadav, who has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail due to a cheque bounce case. The court’s decision allows Yadav to be released until March 18, provided he submits a demand draft of ₹1.5 crore.
During the hearing on Monday, the court specified that if the actor deposits the demand draft by noon, he will be released immediately. However, failure to do so would result in the denial of bail. Despite this, Yadav has been granted interim bail.
Yadav had filed a bail petition to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur. The court approved his request after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the case.
Yadav’s lawyer informed the High Court that the demand draft of ₹1.5 crore has been submitted. Additionally, the court ordered that the actor must surrender his passport, with the next hearing scheduled for March 18.
Before the court session, actor Sonu Sood had prayed for Yadav’s release. Following the court’s decision, Yadav expressed his happiness, stating that good news for the public is on the horizon. Sonu Sood took to social media platform X, writing, “There is great power in prayers; good news is coming soon. Thanks to your unwavering support, the wait is nearly over. Get ready for the laughter you’ve missed, as it returns to the screen.”
It is noteworthy that Sonu Sood initiated a campaign on social media to help secure Yadav’s release, garnering support from various stars and politicians. Tej Pratap Yadav, the national president of the Jan Shakti Party in Bihar, announced a contribution of ₹11 lakh. Music producer Indrajeet Singh pledged ₹1.11 crore, while ASP Anuj Chaudhary from Firozabad contributed ₹51,000.
Rajpal Yadav is reportedly facing a debt of ₹9 crore, which he incurred while producing the film “Ata-Pata-Lapta.” The film did not perform well, leaving Yadav in significant financial distress. He has managed to repay some of the debt through his work in films, but a substantial amount remains outstanding.
