Delhi Police Files Over 20 FIRs Amid CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in New Delhi have filed over 20 FIRs in connection with a protest organized by the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration took place on October 11, where protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They alleged irregularities in the “Special Intensive Revision” of the voter list.

The FIRs were filed for various offenses, including taking the law into their own hands, obstructing government work, and assaulting police officers. Ratna Singh, head of legal affairs for the CJP, reported that three party leaders—Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka—were detained by the Delhi Police as a precaution. However, an executive magistrate ordered their release on the same day.

Initially, these individuals were taken into custody at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as they arrived in the capital to protest against the Election Commission of India. On Saturday, more than 3,000 people participated in the protest against the Chief Election Commissioner, including prominent opposition leaders such as former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, and former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

In light of the planned protest, security agencies established an unprecedented security perimeter around the capital, which led to the demonstration being divided into smaller groups across the city. Authorities had previously denied permission for the protest and warned against gathering without authorization. Measures included internet restrictions, road closures, and traffic rerouting to prevent a repeat of the violent protests seen in July.

The detained protesters were taken to various locations, including Chhatrasal Stadium and different police stations. Most were released by late evening, including social media influencer Dhruv Rathee, who was also detained at his Gurugram home and released the following morning.
