New Delhi, August 8: The Delhi BJP targeted Opposition Leader Atishi for her absence during the assembly session on Friday. They claimed her absence reflects the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) insensitivity towards constitutional institutions and democratic processes.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated that Atishi and former minister Gopal Rai were also absent during the budget session. He emphasized that their repeated absences highlight AAP’s disregard for issues affecting the city.
Kapoor lamented that Atishi, who enjoys privileges funded by Delhi taxpayers, was busy welcoming AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in Goa, while Gopal Rai has been campaigning in Gujarat for months.
He reiterated that the BJP has consistently labeled AAP as a chaotic party, whose leaders are adept only at making baseless allegations through press conferences and disrupting assembly proceedings.
Kapoor noted that when AAP was in power, they did not believe in constructive debate, and now, even in opposition, they show little interest in meaningful discussions on public issues, often raising false and unfounded matters that cannot withstand scrutiny in the assembly.
Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa urged AAP legislators to refrain from political theatrics, baseless accusations, and divisive politics. Instead, he called for participation in substantive debates on public interest issues within the assembly.
He stressed that the assembly is the highest platform of democracy, where serious and constructive discussions should take place regarding public aspirations, development, and accountability.
Sirsa remarked that the opposition has been completely rattled since the implementation of the Delhi Laxmi scheme. He highlighted that this historic initiative, aimed at promoting women’s dignity and economic empowerment, has garnered significant public support, leaving the opposition with no positive political issues to raise.
