Thiruvananthapuram, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Thiruvananthapuram’s Mayor V.V. Rajesh has filed a legal notice demanding ₹5 crore in damages from CPI(M) councillor S.P. Deepak. This action stems from allegations surrounding the forgery of a councillor’s signature in municipal records.
The notice, issued through attorney Senthil Kumar S., grants Deepak 15 days to respond. If he fails to comply, Rajesh plans to initiate civil and criminal proceedings against him.
The controversy revolves around claims that the signatures of councillor R. Sugathan were fraudulently recorded, despite his absence from meetings held on February 26, March 11, and April 27. Deepak alleged that the forgery was conducted with Rajesh’s knowledge and complicity. In response, the mayor has labeled these accusations as entirely false, malicious, and baseless.
Rajesh accused Deepak of convening a press conference on October 4 with the intent to tarnish his reputation and undermine the dignity of the mayoral office. He also refuted Deepak’s assertion that he had obtained a copy of the municipal attendance register under the Right to Information Act, claiming it contained forged signatures.
The notice further states that Deepak made these allegations without providing any substantial evidence. It also claims that Deepak accused Rajesh of manipulating municipal proceedings in collusion with the BJP and RSS.
Rajesh contended that these allegations have severely damaged his reputation and public image, especially as they have been widely disseminated through news channels and social media. The notice emphasizes that Deepak’s statements aimed to disrupt the development activities led by Rajesh and could adversely affect the morale of municipal officials and staff. The mayor maintains that his political record has been impeccable and asserts that the allegations have caused him humiliation, mental distress, and reputational harm.
