Congress Leaders Vow to Protect Voting Rights Amid Election Commission Controversy
Congress leaders assert their commitment to defending voter rights and demand transparency from the Election Commission amid ongoing protests.

New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Congress continues to voice its strong opposition to the Election Commission of India, labeling it a crucial fight for democracy and the rights of voters. In New Delhi, Congress MPs Manoj Kumar and Karmveer Bauddh raised concerns regarding the ongoing controversies surrounding the Election Commission, questioning the central government‘s role and the electoral process itself.
Karmveer Bauddh termed the dispute with the Election Commission as a “battle to save the country and democracy.” He emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, fought hard to secure voting rights for every citizen. However, he warned that this fundamental right is now under threat.
Bauddh stated that Congress’s struggle is centered on protecting this right. He declared that the movement would persist across the nation until Election Commission chief Gyanesh Kumar resigns. He reiterated that Congress’s protest is not directed at a single individual or institution but is aimed at safeguarding the democratic framework and citizens’ voting rights. The party has called for greater transparency and accountability in the Election Commission’s operations.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Manoj Kumar clarified that the lunch invitation extended by party president Mallikarjun Kharge to MPs from the Indi Alliance at Connaught Place was pre-planned. He noted that opposition leaders had announced a series of protests from October 2 to 8 at block and booth levels across the country during a press conference at the Constitution Club.
Kumar added that decisions regarding future strategies would be made based on directives from senior party leaders following the lunch. He also criticized the police’s alleged treatment of opposition leaders, claiming that Rahul Gandhi was being dragged on the streets and MPs were being forcibly loaded onto buses. He stated that the nation is watching this behavior.
He further remarked that the “spark of truth” arising from these events is raising questions about the credibility of officials associated with the Election Commission, suggesting that the repercussions of these issues will become evident in the near future.
