New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, addressed college students on September 10, urging them to focus on learning and contributing to nation-building rather than worrying about their futures. During a session as part of the Assembly’s “Youth Outreach Program,” he highlighted the vital role every young person plays in shaping the future of India.
Students from Kirori Mal College, Sukdev College, Law Centre-I, Law Centre-II, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College visited the Assembly to gain firsthand experience of democratic institutions. This initiative aimed to provide students with insights beyond textbooks, fostering discussions on democracy, constitutional values, public life, and the responsibilities of youth.
Gupta encouraged students to maintain confidence in their journeys and not let academic, professional, or social pressures overwhelm their potential. He emphasized that every individual can contribute to the nation in their respective fields, stating that nation-building is not confined to politics or government roles. “Whatever profession you choose, do it with integrity, excellence, and a sense of responsibility towards society,” he remarked.
The Speaker underscored that the strength of democracy ultimately relies on informed and responsible citizens. He urged students to cultivate the habit of listening to diverse perspectives, asking questions, and understanding issues before forming opinions. He noted that disagreement and debate are natural and essential aspects of a vibrant democracy, provided they respect constitutional values and mutual respect.
During the visit, students actively engaged in discussions with Gupta, posing questions and sharing their views on contemporary issues and the evolving role of youth in India. As part of the educational tour, they enjoyed a guided visit to the historic Delhi Assembly complex, learning about its unique architectural features and its significance in India’s parliamentary history.
The students also explored a documentary presentation that connected the Assembly to the Central Legislative Assembly, highlighting key figures and events tied to its legacy. They were introduced to the Assembly’s commemorative “Coffee Table Book” titled “A Century Journey,” which chronicles the institution’s historical journey and parliamentary heritage. The tour included a visit to the main Assembly chamber, allowing students to experience the environment where legislative debates and discussions take place.
