Patna, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is ramping up its preparations for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council elections, set to take place for eight seats. The party has already announced candidates for six constituencies, while discussions continue regarding the remaining two.
These elections will cover four teacher constituencies and four graduate constituencies. The current term of the MLCs is set to expire on November 16, and the election process is expected to be announced this September.
Unlike assembly elections, voters in teacher and graduate constituencies belong to specific categories. While political parties are finalizing their candidates, several independent candidates are also anticipated to enter the fray.
According to a list released by RJD’s state president, Mangnilal Mandal, the party has nominated Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh for the Patna teacher constituency and Dilip Kumar for the Patna graduate constituency. Additionally, Nitesh Kumar has been chosen for the Kosi graduate constituency, Anil Kumar Jha for the Darbhanga graduate constituency, Prof. Jairam Yadav for the Saran teacher constituency, and Dr. Rashmi Vinayak Gautam for the Tirhut graduate constituency.
The RJD has indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding candidates for the remaining two seats, with announcements expected once final selections are made.
As the expiration of the current MLC term approaches, political parties are accelerating their preparations across all eight constituencies. The RJD has already formulated its strategy for key seats, particularly in the Patna teacher and graduate constituencies.
In the four teacher constituencies, representation includes Prof. Nawal Kishore Yadav from the BJP for Patna, Dr. Madan Mohan Jha from Congress for Darbhanga, independent Afak Ahmed for Saran, and CPI’s Sanjay Kumar Singh for Tirhut.
For the four graduate constituencies, Neeraj Kumar from JDU represents Patna, independent Sarvesh Kumar represents Darbhanga, N.K. Yadav from BJP represents Kosi, and independent Banshidhar Brajwasi represents Tirhut. Their terms will also conclude this November. Given the unique voter demographics, these elections are expected to differ significantly from general assembly elections.
The Patna teacher constituency has the highest number of voters, with 16,689 registered. Following Patna are Saran with 10,800, Tirhut with 9,204, and Darbhanga with 8,967 voters.
In the graduate constituencies, the number of voters is notably higher. Tirhut boasts approximately 135,000 voters, followed by Kosi with around 134,000, Darbhanga with about 127,000, and Patna with close to 88,000.
Alongside established political parties, independent candidates are also gearing up to campaign among teachers and graduates in their respective constituencies.
