New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP Pawan Khera has expressed skepticism about the benefits of GDP growth reaching ordinary citizens, particularly in light of the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Khera stated that the people of Uttarakhand are ready for a change in government.
He emphasized that the Congress party is fully prepared for the 2027 elections, noting that voters in Uttarakhand have decided it is time for a new administration. Khera pledged that the party would meet the hopes and expectations of the electorate.
Regarding the BRICS summit, Khera commented on remarks made by P. Chidambaram, asserting that everyone has the right to express their opinions. He remarked that it is premature to assess the summit’s outcomes until it concludes.
Khera also responded to BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad’s statements, highlighting a contradiction in the BJP’s reaction to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) recent endorsement of India’s GDP growth. He pointed out that the same BJP ecosystem dismissed the IMF’s criticism of India’s GDP calculation methods back in November 2025. Now, with the IMF’s recent validation, the organization seems to be revered by the BJP.
Khera criticized the lack of economic understanding among those in power, stating that when individuals with limited knowledge of economics govern, it leads to confusion. He questioned why the touted economic growth is not reflected in the daily lives of average Indians, insisting that without satisfactory answers from the government, external accolades will not resolve these concerns.
In a related context, Congress MP Kumari Selja responded to BJP President Nitin Naveen’s remarks about Rahul Gandhi, questioning their intent and suggesting that such comments reveal the BJP’s true nature. She accused the party of attempting to divide people along religious and caste lines, a strategy that she believes is no longer effective. Selja cited corruption, youth migration, and rising crime as pressing issues that the BJP has failed to address.
