Saharanpur, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A significant discovery was made in Saharanpur when a 20-foot deep well was uncovered following the demolition of an illegal mosque in the Collectorate premises. Local police are currently on-site, and the well has been covered for safety.
The well was revealed as officials cleared debris from the mosque, which was demolished in accordance with a court order. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Subodh Kumar confirmed that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will investigate the well’s structure. “The demolition was carried out as per the court’s directive, and now the ASI will assess the findings,” he stated.
Kumar added that further instructions have been issued, and teams from the ASI and the Survey of India will conduct their examinations soon. Meanwhile, the area where the mosque stood has been leveled, and its debris has been transported 10 kilometers away from Saharanpur.
In response to the mosque’s demolition, a delegation from the Samajwadi Party plans to visit the Collectorate on Sunday to gather information and investigate the circumstances surrounding the mosque’s destruction. The party claims that the district administration assured them on the evening of September 4 that the mosque would be sealed but not demolished.
The delegation, following the directives of party president Akhilesh Yadav, aims to meet with the Divisional Commissioner to understand the situation better. After their visit, they will compile a report for the party’s state office.
