David Warner Focuses on Fitness and Motivation Ahead of PSL 2026

Mumbai, March 26: Former Australian opener David Warner will captain Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) starting March 26. He emphasized that he has worked hard to maintain his fitness and motivation even after retiring from the IPL.

At 39, Warner has had an impressive IPL career, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals before joining the PSL last year. He led Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL title in 2016 and scored 6,565 runs in 184 matches, ranking fourth among the league’s highest run-scorers, behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.

Despite struggling with form in the IPL’s final phase, which led to his exclusion from the team and loss of captaincy, Warner did not give up. The franchise chose not to retain him, but he continued to focus on his fitness. Having played for Australia across all formats from 2009 to 2024, Warner stated that he maintained his fitness routine after leaving the IPL. He told ‘Telecom Asia Sport’, “I had to keep myself motivated and fit after the IPL, so I stuck to my fitness routine and followed a good diet. Now, I feel stronger and fitter than most players my age.”

This marks Warner’s second year in the PSL. Last season, he scored 368 runs in 11 matches, helping Karachi Kings reach the playoffs, although they lost to Islamabad United. Warner is optimistic about a better performance this time around.

He noted that the team has several new young players who can excel, along with his former teammate Adam Zampa, which will strengthen the squad. Warner has also represented franchises like Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, St. Lucia Stars, Winnipeg Hawks, Sylhet Sixers, Dubai Capitals, Seattle Orcas, and London Spirit. The 2020 champions, Karachi Kings, will play their first match of PSL 2026 against Quetta Gladiators, aiming to improve their performance and secure the title this season.
