Governor of Madhya Pradesh Advocates for Prioritizing Sickle Cell Anemia and TB Eradication Efforts

Bhopal, April 1: Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel emphasized on Tuesday that efforts to eradicate sickle cell anemia and tuberculosis (TB) should be given top priority in the state.

He instructed that during camps set up for sickle cell eradication programs in tribal areas, the public should be informed that the entire treatment process falls under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

While addressing a review meeting at Lok Bhavan regarding the ‘Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication 2047’ and ‘TB-Free India Campaign’ under the Departments of Public Health and Family Welfare and AYUSH, Governor Patel stated that patients suffering from sickle cell anemia should be adequately informed about the benefits and eligibility under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

The Governor also reviewed the district-wise ‘Nikshay Mitras’ and directed that more individuals be involved in improving nutrition and food distribution, especially in tribal areas, for their contributions.

‘Nikshay Mitras’ are donors who provide support to TB patients under the ‘Prime Minister’s TB-Free India Campaign.’ They can be individuals, organizations, corporations, or elected representatives who offer voluntary and humanitarian assistance to patients, including nutrition, testing, and vocational support, with the goal of achieving a TB-free India.

The Governor instructed that regular TB screenings should be conducted for people living and working in mining areas. Elected representatives should actively assist in distributing nutritious food to TB patients.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, present at the meeting, directed officials to launch special campaigns to ensure 100% completion of the Ayushman card creation process and the indicators for sickle cell and TB eradication programs.
