Crime Branch Busts Ticket Scalping Ring Ahead of T20 World Cup Final

Ahmedabad, March 8: The Crime Branch in Ahmedabad has arrested two individuals involved in the black marketing of tickets for the T20 World Cup 2026 final, scheduled for Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium between India and New Zealand.

During surveillance near the Gujarat Vidyapith ST Bus Stand in Usmanpura, the authorities apprehended two suspects. They were found in possession of eight tickets for the final match. Investigations revealed that these individuals had booked the tickets online in advance and were attempting to sell them illegally at three times the original price, charging ₹10,000 each just a day before the match.

The Crime Branch has seized all the tickets and initiated legal proceedings against the suspects. They are also intensifying their investigation to determine if there are additional members involved in this ticket scalping network.

In the tournament, the Indian team has lost only one match, which was against South Africa in the Super-8 stage. They secured their place in the final by defeating England by seven wickets in the semifinals.

On the other hand, New Zealand has lost two matches in the tournament, with one match being canceled due to rain. The Kiwi team dominated South Africa in the semifinals, winning by nine wickets.

Historically, India and New Zealand have faced each other in 30 T20 matches, with India holding the upper hand, winning 16 matches compared to New Zealand’s 11 victories. Three matches ended in a tie. However, in T20 World Cup encounters, India has yet to defeat New Zealand, having lost all three previous matches. Fans are hopeful for a different outcome this time.
