Bhopal, June 16: A district court in Bhopal has extended the judicial custody of retired district judge Giribala Singh and his son Samarth Singh until June 30. This case is linked to the suspicious death of former model and actress Twisha Sharma, which is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Following the completion of their 14-day judicial custody, the mother-son duo was presented in court via video conferencing from Bhopal Central Jail.
After the hearing, the court ordered that both accused remain in judicial custody for the next two weeks. Lawyers representing both sides were present during the proceedings.
Twisha Sharma’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, and her brother, Major Harshit Sharma, also attended the hearing.
After a second post-mortem at AIIMS Bhopal on May 25, the family returned to Greater Noida after conducting Twisha’s last rites in Bhopal.
Due to the family’s demand for an independent investigation and increased public attention on the case, it was transferred from the Madhya Pradesh police to the CBI.
Based on initial findings, the central agency arrested Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh in May. After taking them into custody for questioning, the CBI presented them in court, which remanded them to judicial custody on June 2.
Since then, investigators have been exploring various avenues to determine the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death. As part of the investigation, the CBI recently conducted a reconstruction of the incident at the Singh family’s home in Bhopal, where Twisha was living after her marriage.
During this process, officials used a weighted dummy to recreate the sequence of events and verify the claims made by the accused.
According to Ankur Pandey, the lawyer representing Twisha’s family, CBI officials traveled to Greater Noida to record statements from family members and others connected to the case.
Investigators are currently examining forensic evidence, digital records, electronic communications, and witness statements gathered during the investigation.
Twisha’s family has alleged that she faced mental and physical abuse after her marriage and has called for strict action against those responsible for her death. The accused have denied all allegations.
Twisha Sharma (33) was found dead on May 12 at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal. The first post-mortem was conducted on May 13 at AIIMS Bhopal, and a second post-mortem was carried out due to the investigation’s findings, leading to the initiation of the CBI inquiry. Following the court’s extension of judicial remand, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh will remain in Bhopal Central Jail until the next hearing on June 30.
