Chennai, August 30: The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) has temporarily extended existing contracts related to food sales in bars and the collection of empty liquor bottles from its retail outlets. This decision comes as the process for selecting new contractors is still underway.
These agreements, originally set to expire on August 31, will now remain valid for an additional two months, from September 1 to October 31. However, if successful bidders from the ongoing tender process begin operations before the revised deadline, the extension may be terminated early.
On August 28, TASMAC’s Managing Director, K. Nanthakumar, informed senior regional and district managers about this decision. The extension aims to prevent any disruptions in bar-related services while evaluating bids and finalizing contracts under the new tender.
The corporation noted that additional time may be required for bid evaluations, identifying successful bidders, and executing contracts. Allowing current contractors to continue their work during this interim period will ensure the uninterrupted sale of food and collection of empty bottles at TASMAC retail vending shops and associated bars.
District managers across all 38 districts have been authorized to formally extend existing agreements and collect the prescribed bar license fees for the extended period. This arrangement will remain in effect until October 31 or until the newly selected contractors take over, whichever comes first.
TASMAC has also granted a short-term extension to contractors responsible for collecting empty carton boxes and other waste generated at its retail outlets. These contracts, originally set to end on August 31, have been extended for one month, covering the period from September 1 to September 30.
Similar to the bar contracts, the waste collection extension may be terminated before September 30 if new contractors selected through the tender process begin work earlier.
The corporation has instructed its district-level officials to ensure that existing arrangements continue as per the stipulated conditions during the extension period.
This temporary measure is expected to help avoid hygiene and operational issues while facilitating the regular removal of bottles, cans, and other waste from TASMAC premises. The decision allows TASMAC additional time to complete tender formalities without impacting services at its retail outlets and associated bars throughout Tamil Nadu.
