New Delhi, April 6: A political storm has erupted following comments made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during a rally in Idukki, Kerala. Central Sports Minister and Porbandar MP Mansukh Mandaviya accused the Congress party of harboring a “negative mindset” towards Gujarat.
Kharge stated that the people of Kerala cannot be misled, as they are educated and discerning. He suggested that leaders like Modi and Vijayan might deceive less educated individuals in Gujarat and elsewhere, but not the people of Kerala.
In response, Mandaviya highlighted that the Congress party’s longstanding negative attitude towards Gujarat is not new. He cited instances such as the party’s attempts to downplay Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contributions and its opposition to the Narmada Dam project, which he claimed hindered the state’s development.
Mandaviya directly referenced Kharge’s recent remarks, suggesting they reflect the bitterness and animosity within Congress towards Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel condemned Kharge’s comments as “highly objectionable and unfortunate.” He asserted that such statements not only insult the six crore people of Gujarat but also tarnish the dignity of the sacred land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Mandaviya emphasized that Gujarat has always played a crucial role in nation-building, development, and unity, and will continue to do so. He argued that Kharge’s remarks expose Congress’s narrow-mindedness.
Chief Minister Patel noted that Kharge’s comments clearly indicate the discomfort and insecurity Congress feels due to the development politics led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which enjoys widespread public support.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi also criticized Kharge, questioning why Congress harbors such animosity towards Gujarat. He stated that repeatedly targeting the people of Gujarat is not only disrespectful but also sends a clear message that Congress is seeking revenge for being ousted from power by the people of Gujarat.
Sanghvi asserted that the aware citizens of Gujarat have consistently rejected Congress, which disrespects the sacred land of Gandhi and Patel, and will continue to do so in the future.
Kharge’s comments came during his election campaign in Kerala, where he targeted both the BJP and the ruling Left Democratic Alliance, escalating political tensions across the state.
