Mumbai, August 3: A viral video featuring Congress leader Nana Patole has drawn significant criticism. The video shows two individuals washing Patole’s feet during a ceremony for Guru Purnima. Sanjay Nirupam, a spokesperson for Shiv Sena, condemned the act, labeling it “extremely shameful.”
The incident has ignited controversy, with the BJP mocking it as a reflection of Congress culture. In defense, Patole stated that the individuals washing his feet were young family members. The video depicts Patole seated on a sofa while the two men wash his feet and shower him with flowers. Fruits were also placed near his feet as part of the ritual.
Nirupam expressed his disapproval, stating, “This video of Nana Patole is highly embarrassing. On Guru Purnima, his so-called disciples are seen washing his feet with milk. Like Baba Ram Rahim and Baba Ram Pal, Patole sits with an air of arrogance, scrolling on his mobile. Washing feet with milk is inappropriate even for a spiritual guru, let alone a politician. Respect can be shown on Guru Purnima, but what does washing feet with milk signify?”
He also commented on the FIR filed against independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnia and Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. Nirupam praised the decision, stating that Yadav’s protest against alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was merely a drama. He claimed the protest was disrespectful to followers of Sanatan Dharma.
Nirupam remarked, “I believe that presentation was an insult to the entire Sanatan Dharma. Pappu Yadav, dressed in saffron, acted as if he was stealing donations, while Rahul Gandhi participated as a devotee, later portrayed as having his donation stolen by Yadav’s character.”
Regarding the alleged donation theft at Siddhivinayak Temple, Nirupam stated, “If money donated to our temples is stolen, there is no greater sin. There are unverified reports that trustees of Siddhivinayak Temple have alerted senior leaders of our party about a significant portion of donations being misused. Raj Thackeray has highlighted this as a major issue. A leader from Thackeray’s party previously alleged that during Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure as Chief Minister, there was widespread theft and corruption in donations at Siddhivinayak Temple.”
In response to another query, Nirupam announced that a proposal to amend the FCRA law would soon be presented in Parliament. The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) amendment aims to impose stricter actions against various organizations, including missionary groups and NGOs receiving substantial funding from foreign companies and governments.
