SSB Honors Fallen Soldiers on 15th Anniversary of Maoist Attack

Dantewada, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) held a solemn tribute on October 7 to honor four of its soldiers who lost their lives in a Maoist ambush in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, exactly 15 years ago.

On October 7, 2011, Head Constable Dharmeshwar Nath and Constables Dilesh Chaturoli, Thazhkuniyil Praveen, and Vivek Kumar were returning to their camp after a successful anti-Naxal operation. Their vehicle was targeted by insurgents using an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Bagmundi area of Dantewada, resulting in the immediate death of all four soldiers.

A memorial service took place at the SSB’s headquarters in Ranidanga, West Bengal. Senior officials, including IG Vandan Saxena from the Siliguri Frontier Headquarters, paid their respects at the soldiers’ memorial following a formal tribute ceremony. The event included a gun salute and a two-minute silence in honor of the fallen heroes.

Among those who offered their respects were DIGs A.K.C. Singh, S.K. Sarangi, and Rajiv Rana, along with Shiv Dayal, Mamta Agarwal, and Commandant Vikas Kumar of the 41st Battalion.

Saxena expressed deep gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice made by these brave soldiers, stating that their legacy serves as a reminder of courage, responsibility, and discipline in service to the nation.

SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal also conveyed his tribute through a message, emphasizing the dedication and commitment of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He noted that their valor and unwavering devotion to national service continue to inspire all.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 48 SSB personnel were martyred in action between 2015 and 2017, with two more losing their lives in 2017-18. Between 2019 and 2021, 24 SSB members were killed in action.
