Ranchi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Rupai Soren, the mother of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and widow of prominent political figure Shibu Soren, passed away on Wednesday at Hill View Hospital in Ranchi. She was approximately 80 years old. The news of her passing was confirmed by cardiologists Dr. Deepak Gupta and Dr. Ujjwal Rai.
Rupai Soren had been suffering from health issues for several months, with her condition deteriorating recently. She was admitted to Hill View Hospital in September after experiencing difficulty breathing. Prior to that, she had received treatment in Hyderabad. After returning to Ranchi, her health continued to decline, and she was under medical supervision. On Wednesday, her condition suddenly worsened.
A team of doctors, including Dr. Gupta and Dr. Rai, monitored her closely and called in specialists to assist with her treatment. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated further in the evening, and the doctors later confirmed her passing. In light of her critical condition, Chief Minister Hemant Soren canceled several scheduled events for the day.
The state cabinet meeting planned for that evening was also postponed. Chief Minister Soren arrived at Hill View Hospital around 4 PM to inquire about his mother’s condition, where he was joined by several political leaders, including Minister Yogendra Prasad.
Rupai Soren married Shibu Soren on January 1, 1962, and remained by his side throughout their marriage. Shibu Soren was a key leader in the Jharkhand movement and a founding member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, serving as the state’s Chief Minister three times. He passed away on August 4, 2025, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.
After her husband’s death, Rupai Soren continued to be an important figure within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and maintained her presence as a senior member of the political family. Following the announcement of her passing, leaders from various political parties, representatives, and social organizations expressed their condolences.
