New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant political development ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Congress party has gained momentum with the addition of several key leaders and social activists. The formal induction took place at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday, led by Rajendra Pal Gautam, the party’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh.
Among the notable figures joining Congress is Neelam Yadav, the former president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s women’s wing in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav has been instrumental in managing the party’s women’s organization in the state. Additionally, former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Ghaziabad, Parmanan Garg, former government official Durga Prasad, and prominent social worker Haji Imamuddin Ansari, representing the weaver community from Bijnor, also joined the party.
The Congress views the arrival of these leaders as a boost to its organizational strength in Uttar Pradesh. Neelam Yadav’s entry is expected to enhance the party’s appeal among female voters and strengthen its urban presence. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Garg and Ansari is anticipated to solidify Congress’s support within the business and weaving communities, respectively.
Welcoming the new members, Rajendra Pal Gautam criticized the current BJP government, stating that an increasing number of people are joining Congress due to their dissatisfaction with what he termed “misgovernance.” He highlighted the public’s struggles with inflation, unemployment, and corruption, asserting that many are looking to Congress as a viable alternative.
Gautam emphasized that Congress remains the sole party committed to defending the nation’s democracy and constitution. Under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, the party is collaborating with the “India” coalition to address the challenges facing the country, which he described as experiencing a “dictatorship and undeclared emergency.”
He also pointed out the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, criticizing the central government and Delhi police for imposing new regulations that he claims infringe on citizens’ fundamental rights and constitutional freedoms of speech and expression. Gautam accused the government of attempting to suppress democratic voices.
