Every Indians Duty to Protect Democracy and Constitution, Says Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, shared a video on social media platform ‘X’ on October 8, asserting that protecting India’s Constitution, democracy, and the voice of the people is every Indian’s responsibility. He claimed that a process to save democracy and ensure justice for the public has begun and will not stop.

In his video message, Gandhi stated, “It is the duty of every Indian to protect the Constitution, democracy, and its voice. This process has started. The effort to restore faith in democracy and deliver justice to the people will not cease.”

He accused the current government of undermining democratic institutions and the Constitution over the past 10 to 15 years, alleging that certain individuals within the central government and the Election Commission have caused damage to these institutions.

Gandhi pointed out that the Congress party has long raised concerns about alleged electoral irregularities and “vote theft.” He mentioned that after presenting facts and evidence related to several states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, the public has begun to take these issues seriously.

He emphasized that the ongoing protests are not a fleeting movement but the beginning of a long-term process. According to him, the initial step will be political action, followed by a change in government, and finally, an investigation to determine who is responsible for harming the country’s democracy.

Gandhi highlighted that the opposition’s voice is rising because they want to ensure that democracy remains strong and that the power of the people’s vote is not undermined. He stated that the responsibility to protect democracy lies not only with the opposition but with every citizen of India.

He also referenced the ongoing protests against the Election Commission, noting that opposition parties have been demonstrating for the past two days. On the first day, around 300 MPs attempted to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other officials but were denied access and subsequently arrested.

Furthermore, he alleged that opposition leaders and activists faced obstruction and mistreatment during a protest attempt at Jantar Mantar the following day.

Gandhi asserted that this movement has now gained significant momentum and cannot be halted. He reiterated that the demand for accountability from those who harm democracy will continue.

His statement coincided with a political clash between the central government and the opposition regarding the Election Commission’s special intensive review (SIR) campaign and the electoral process. This video was recorded while he was traveling with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition leaders to Rajghat.
