Uttar Pradesh Police Appoints 470 Athletes as New Recruits
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath hands appointment letters to 470 athletes, emphasizing hard work over government favor.

Lucknow, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : A ceremony in Lucknow on October 8 saw the Uttar Pradesh Police distribute appointment letters to 470 athletes selected under the skilled player quota. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented the letters to the newly appointed recruits.
During the event, CM Adityanath highlighted that the 470 appointees include 303 men and 167 women. Specifically, 295 positions have been filled in the Civil Police, comprising 148 men and 147 women. Additionally, 63 athletes have been appointed as sub-inspectors, with 43 men and 20 women, while 132 have been selected for the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
The Chief Minister addressed the attendees, asking if any of them had been asked for money or recommendations during the recruitment process. He emphasized that the appointment letters they received were not due to government grace or favoritism but rather the result of their hard work. “Hard work never goes unrewarded,” he stated, urging the recruits to uphold justice in their roles as police officers.
Adityanath noted that prior to 2017, there were no direct recruitment rules for athletes in the police or any department. Since then, the government has initiated direct recruitment processes, with nearly 1,000 athletes receiving appointment letters so far. Currently, 555 more athletes are in the selection process.
He also shared an inspiring story of a daughter from Uttar Pradesh who won a gold medal, attributing her success to her aspiration of becoming a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The government has now appointed several athletes to DSP positions, including Lalit Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal, who were previously associated with a private sports academy in Ghazipur.
CM Adityanath expressed pride in the financial support provided to skilled athletes, stating that over ₹200 crores has been allocated as encouragement for those who have won medals in the Olympics and other competitions. He announced plans to establish a sports college in every commissionerate, along with centers of excellence to further support athletic development.
