Congress MP Tariq Anwar Criticizes BJP Over Vande Mataram Controversy

New Delhi, August 23: Congress MP Tariq Anwar has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram‘. He stated that the BJP neither respects nor adheres to traditions.

Anwar claimed that in 1937, on the advice of Rabindranath Tagore, the Congress decided to sing two verses of the song.

Responding to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comments, Anwar remarked that the CM has nothing to discuss except for Pakistan and Muslims.

On the ‘Vande Mataram’ issue, Anwar said, “The BJP does not respect or follow traditions. If we look at history, in 1937, the Congress Working Committee, under the guidance of Rabindranath Tagore, passed a resolution. Key leaders like Sardar Patel, who led our freedom struggle, were present, and they collectively decided that two undisputed verses of the song should be sung.”

In response to former Union Minister Smriti Irani’s statement, Anwar emphasized, “The Congress party’s stance is clear: we stand with the students. We have also urged the state governments where we are in power to engage with students and address their concerns.”

Anwar further criticized Yogi Adityanath, saying, “The CM has nothing to talk about except Pakistan and Muslims. In his nearly ten years in office, he has accomplished little. When we discuss the poorest states in India, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are among them. He has done nothing to eradicate poverty, create jobs, or bring development to Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, he seeks votes by diverting attention to other issues.”
