New Delhi, August 1: Congress leaders have voiced strong criticism against the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding several issues, including the viral video showing police officers massaging Kanwariyas during the Kanwar Yatra, the recent reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices, and the FCRA amendment bill.
Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh commented on the viral footage, stating that police officers should not engage in such activities while in uniform. He emphasized that the police have constitutional and administrative responsibilities, making such actions during duty inappropriate.
Singh acknowledged that helping someone on a humanitarian basis is commendable, but maintaining the dignity of the uniform and duty is equally important.
He also criticized the recent reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices, arguing that it does not provide real relief to the public. According to him, inflation continues to burden families across the country, and LPG prices in India remain higher compared to neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. He stated that the minor price cut offers no significant benefit to the common people.
In Lucknow, Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput also expressed objections to the police officers’ actions during the Kanwar Yatra. He stated that performing such tasks while in uniform contradicts the rules and spirit of police service. Such videos undermine the dignity of both the police department and the Constitution.
Rajput added that while it is commendable for individuals to want to serve, such actions should occur after duty hours and on a personal level, not while fulfilling government responsibilities.
He also responded to controversies surrounding the Punjab Congress, asserting that the BJP’s ecosystem fabricates baseless issues. He dismissed allegations against Charanjit Singh Channi’s brother as unfounded, emphasizing that these matters hold no significance. The Congress party is moving forward with the support and trust of all its leaders and workers, confident of forming a government in Punjab with a substantial majority.
Clarifying Congress’s strategy regarding the FCRA amendment bill, Rajput stated that the government should present the bill in the house for extensive discussion. Congress will play a constructive opposition role and will seriously address every provision in Parliament.
