New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP, expressed his views on the FIR filed against him for allegedly forcing entry into the All India Radio building during a protest by the India Bloc. He stated that for him, every FIR is like a medal. Gandhi reiterated his demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, insisting that his protests will persist.
In a media interaction, Gandhi revealed that he currently faces 45 FIRs and aims for 100. “I want to reach 100 FIRs. Each one is a badge of honor for me,” he declared.
He highlighted that around 300 MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha wanted to meet with the Chief Election Commissioner but were denied access. The Delhi police prevented them from gathering, claiming that protests were not allowed. Gandhi announced that the MPs would instead head to Jantar Mantar to voice their concerns, asserting that Gyanesh Kumar is not a legitimate Chief Election Commissioner and has colluded with the central government to undermine democracy in the country. He emphasized that action would be taken against those responsible and that Kumar must resign.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge supported Gandhi’s stance, stating that their protests would continue. He criticized the Election Commission for its repeated mistakes and actions allegedly directed by the central government, which he claimed threaten democracy. Kharge emphasized that they aim to ensure the people’s voices are heard across the country.
The India alliance members plan to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar against Gyanesh Kumar until their demands are met. They believe that the Election Commission’s actions are influenced by the central government and are committed to defending the rights of the people, regardless of the number of cases filed against them. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury added that the government may think they can intimidate them with FIRs, but they will not be deterred.
