New Delhi, August 21: Congress leader Santosh Singh Saluja has dismissed Amit Shah‘s claims regarding ‘Vande Mataram‘ and accused the BJP of politicizing the national song. Several other leaders have also leveled serious allegations against the BJP.
In a conversation, Saluja stated, “First and foremost, every child in India knows about the freedom struggle, which was led by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and other great freedom fighters, most of whom were associated with the Congress. At that time, it was not the BJP; it was the RSS. The RSS members acted as agents of the British. Even 50 years after independence, the tricolor was never hoisted at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. They did not raise the tricolor; they raised their saffron flag.”
On the ‘Vande Mataram’ controversy, Congress MP Imran Masood remarked, “What were Rabindranath Tagore and Sardar Patel? We are carrying forward the legacy of Tagore, Sardar Patel, and Mahatma Gandhi.”
Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal added, “In the 1936 Congress CWC meeting, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Acharya Narendra Dev were present. They were not like today’s communists or those with Hindu ideologies. At that time, it was decided that they would sing these two verses. ‘Vande Mataram’ is a battle cry. When people marched for independence, it became an inspiring song. That is why it was limited to just two verses.”
Udayveer Singh commented that governments lacking a report card often stir controversial issues to divert attention from core matters. He stated that the BJP has used ‘Vande Mataram’, patriotism, and religion to create disputes, and they are actively engaged in this process.
