New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The upcoming BRICS Summit in 2026 is generating significant global interest, particularly as India prepares to host the event. Experts view this as a moment of pride for India, emphasizing the theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” or the world as one family. The arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised expectations for enhanced defense and strategic partnerships.
Colonel (Retired) Rohit Dev, Managing Director and Founder of Revel Energy, expressed pride in India’s hosting of BRICS 2026, stating, “India is no longer under anyone’s influence. In the past, this may have been the case, but not anymore. We invite others to join us in our vision of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.'”
This year’s summit theme focuses on resilience, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability—key areas vital for development. India uniquely maintains strategic partnerships with both Russia and the United States, free from any restrictions. The BRICS bloc represents nearly half of the world’s population and contributes 40% to global GDP, with new countries continuously joining.
Discussing India-Russia defense relations, Colonel Dev highlighted the advantages of early engagement, noting that President Putin arrived in India on Thursday night. He assured that all memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed, including those in defense, are aligned with India’s national interests and are not subject to restrictions. He mentioned the dual-use technologies that will benefit both defense and civilian aviation sectors, including potential imports of the SU-57.
Canada’s High Commissioner Christopher Cooter expressed his best wishes for India’s success at the summit, anticipating a complex conference. He emphasized Canada’s aim to establish itself as a reliable supplier of critical minerals for India’s green transition and semiconductor development. “We possess the resources, technology, and expertise to support this initiative. In a world filled with trade and political challenges, we aspire to be a security island for India,” he stated.
Cooter also praised India’s economic resilience, noting, “You are one of the fastest-growing major economies, demonstrating strength despite challenges in the Middle East.” He pointed out the interesting parallel between the two nations, as both leaders advocate for increased resilience—India’s “Make in India” initiative aligns with Canada’s “Build Canada Strong.”
The press secretary of the Russian Embassy in India, Petr Sizov, affirmed the significance of India’s economy, calling it one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world. He expressed happiness regarding the numerous projects being undertaken collaboratively.
