Kolkata, June 18: A complaint has been lodged against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra by BJP leader Hirak Bhattacharya for allegedly making provocative statements. The complaint was filed on Wednesday at the Hogalbaria police station in Karimpur, Nadia district.
The complaint alleges that Moitra has consistently made statements that hurt religious sentiments and attempt to disrupt Hindu-Muslim harmony in the state.
Recently, several female BJP leaders gathered outside the Krishnanagar District Sessions Court with eggs and tomatoes, claiming that Moitra might appear in court for an old case. They threatened to throw eggs and tomatoes at her if she showed up.
In response, Moitra posted two videos on Facebook addressing the situation. In her first statement, she announced her intention to file a police complaint against the women who were prepared to throw eggs at her in the court premises.
She warned that if the police did not take her complaint seriously, she would escalate the matter to the court, including the Supreme Court if necessary.
The following day, she released another video stating that she would file an FIR against all the women shown in the video. She sarcastically remarked, “Instead of throwing eggs, if you wear a burqa while doing it, no one will see you. Then there will be no complaints.”
Her remarks quickly went viral on social media. Following this, the BJP leader filed a complaint against her for allegedly inciting discord between communities and making inflammatory statements.
A senior police officer from Nadia district confirmed that the police have received the complaint and are currently investigating the matter.
