Bareilly, June 12: A severe storm accompanied by heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh. The power supply across the district has been completely disrupted. Numerous electricity poles and trees have fallen, causing significant damage. District Magistrate Avinash Singh stated that the family of a 25-year-old man who lost his life in the storm will receive a compensation of ₹4 lakh.
Avinash Singh mentioned that the administration was on high alert during the recent devastating storm and heavy rains. The strong winds led to the collapse of power poles and trees, resulting in extensive damage.
He reported that winds reached speeds of 80-90 kilometers per hour over the past two days, causing considerable destruction. Heavy rainfall occurred on Thursday. The administration had received early warnings about the adverse weather through the Sewa App, allowing them to prepare in advance, but the strong winds still caused significant damage.
The District Magistrate noted that over 250 electricity poles and lines have fallen in the district, with around 100 poles down in urban areas. This led to prolonged power outages in various regions, both urban and rural. The electricity department had made initial arrangements, which helped restore power in several areas promptly.
Avinash Singh instructed all officials to monitor relief operations in the field and assess the damage, ensuring that compensation is distributed within 24 hours. He emphasized that any negligence in relief efforts will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the storm and rain have severely impacted mango crops, causing ripe mangoes to fall prematurely. This has dealt a blow to farmers’ profit expectations. Conversely, the rainwater accumulation in fields prepared for paddy planting has alleviated irrigation concerns. Progressive farmers view the rainfall as beneficial for rice cultivation, although the fallen trees and poles have caused significant traffic disruptions.
