Mumbai, September 2: Actor Chunky Pandey recently reminisced about his experiences working with filmmaker David Dhawan, sharing a humorous story that highlights Dhawan’s infectious enthusiasm. Pandey revealed that Dhawan was so passionate about his work that he often found himself almost becoming part of the scenes during shooting. In fact, crew members frequently had to intervene to prevent him from stepping into the frame while the camera was rolling.
Chunky described David Dhawan as one of the finest directors he has worked with. He noted that during their time together, modern technology like monitors was not available, which meant directors had to visualize the entire scene in their minds.
This amusing anecdote was shared by Chunky on the upcoming episode of Sony Entertainment Television’s show “India’s Best Dancer Season 5.” Throughout the show, he reflected on his days working with Dhawan, emphasizing that the director was not just a figure standing behind the camera; he was fully engaged with the scenes.
Chunky explained that during their shoots, there were no conveniences like monitors. Directors would remain behind the camera, directly guiding the actors. When David would call out “Start, Sound, Camera, Action,” he would immerse himself in the scene, sometimes getting so carried away that he would step into the frame. According to Chunky, crew members often had to hold him back because of his overwhelming excitement about the scenes.
He praised David, stating that working with him has always been a special experience. Chunky acknowledged Dhawan as one of the best directors he has collaborated with, noting that Dhawan’s background as an editor greatly benefited the shooting of his films.
According to the actor, Dhawan seemed to edit the film in his mind while shooting. He always had a clear idea of how to position a scene and its intended impact on the audience. This foresight allowed him to make many decisions during the shooting process.
Actress Karisma Kapoor also chimed in, affirming that David had a complete vision of each scene in his mind. Particularly with comedy scenes, he would mentally edit them beforehand. Karisma highlighted that this unique ability contributed to David’s success in the comedy genre.
