She stated, “If I were a rape survivor, watching the film’s climax would make me feel cowardly for not committing suicide to save my honor. Are we telling survivors that they are not worthy of life? Does a respectable woman end her life? Are we suggesting that rape is the end of a woman’s life? This scene is deeply problematic.”
After the video went viral, Swara posted another clip clarifying that her words had been misrepresented. She emphasized that she did not mean to imply that women who commit ‘jauhar’ are cowards.
Draupadi’s Statement: In January 2022, a government pre-university college in Udupi denied entry to students wearing hijabs. In February 2022, Swara compared the hijab controversy in Karnataka to the assembly in the Mahabharata, where Draupadi was forcibly disrobed while the powerful remained silent. She wrote on social media, “Just like Draupadi’s humiliation, today’s silence is deafening.”
The Kashmir Files: During the International Film Festival of India in November 2022, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid called ‘The Kashmir Files’ propaganda. Swara supported his statement on social media, writing, “It is evidently clear to the world.”
In a post without naming anyone, she remarked that if one seeks congratulations for their success, they should not have spent the last five years pushing an agenda against people.
