Mumbai, September 2: The birthday of Sadhana Shivdasani, one of the top actresses of the 60s and 70s, is being celebrated today. On this occasion, actress Saira Banu and actor Jackie Shroff paid tribute to her.
Saira Banu shared memorable photos on Instagram featuring herself alongside Sadhana, Raj Kapoor, and Mala Sinha. She wrote, “Sending love on Sadhana’s birthday. One of the finest actresses in Indian cinema and a personality filled with grace. Sadhana S. Mukherjee was one of the best discoveries of Shashadhar Mukherjee’s Filmalaya Studios. She was an artist who delivered remarkable performances in films like ‘Who Was She’, ‘Mera Saaya’, and ‘Waqt’, which remain etched in the hearts and memories of people forever.”
Jackie Shroff also posted some pictures of Sadhana on his Instagram Stories, stating, “You will always remain in our memories.” Sadhana, known for her exceptional acting and unique hairstyle (the Sadhana cut), continues to be immensely popular.
At just 14, Sadhana made her debut as a background dancer in Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Shree 420’ with the famous song ‘Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh’. She later played the role of the lead actress’s younger sister in the 1958 film ‘Abana’, earning a symbolic fee of just ₹1.
In 1960, Sadhana made her debut as a leading actress in Shashadhar Mukherjee’s film ‘Love in Shimla’, directed by R.K. Nayyar. The film was a massive hit. Her distinctive hairstyle, inspired by Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn, became known as the ‘Sadhana cut’, setting a trend among young women of that era.
Sadhana chose to distance herself from films that offered side roles, adhering to her principle of only working as a leading lady. She passed away on December 25, 2015.
