Mumbai, September 2: Actress Taapsee Pannu is gearing up for the release of her upcoming action-thriller film, “Gandhari.” She emphasizes that she has always valued the quality of films over box office collections.
Pannu believes that even though she may not have films that gross over 100 crores, it does not concern her. In a recent interview, she mentioned that she has seen many films that did not perform well at the box office but later gained cult classic status.
“I have witnessed several films in my career that initially flopped, yet ten years later, we count them among the best films of the decade. They eventually earn cult status, receive appreciation, and are referenced frequently,” she stated.
She also noted that this understanding has significantly influenced her decisions as an actor, leading her to prioritize her filmography over temporary box office rewards.
“I have valued my list of films more than fleeting applause. My filmography will always remain. Times change, and different types of films are made, but my filmography will not change; it will stay the same,” she added.
Pannu aspires to be part of films that she can be proud of even years later. “I want to include films in my list that, even 20 years from now, I can look back on and say, ‘Yes, this was a good film.’ Of course, this comes at a cost. People may say your films are flops, and then you have to wait ten years for them to gain cult status. You can then give big interviews, while no one talks about the other hit films released that year. It’s a strange cycle that an actor has to go through,” she explained.
The actress candidly admitted that she does not have films that have grossed hundreds of crores, which is often seen as a benchmark for stardom today. “I have no issue with not having films that have earned 1000 crores or 500 crores. Even if we consider films that have crossed 100 crores, there aren’t many in my career. I am not bothered by it,” she concluded.
