Kathmandu, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : In Kathmandu, on September 5, a Chinese national was successfully rescued from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 1 hydropower project, which was severely impacted by recent flooding. This rescue occurred eleven days after dangerous floods swept through the region, affecting areas near the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed the rescue, stating that it involved a coordinated effort between the Nepalese Army and a disaster expert team from South Korea. The Chinese citizen was found during an extensive search operation aimed at locating individuals trapped in the hydropower project’s tunnels.
Following the rescue, the individual was transported to the Trishuli area of Nuwakot for further medical care. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that devastated multiple hydropower projects and infrastructure along the river corridors.
The Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) reported that many workers remain unaccounted for, with the Upper Trishuli 1 project alone having 551 individuals still missing. In total, 936 workers from eleven different hydropower projects have not been located.
On the same day, the Nepalese Army also rescued two local citizens trapped inside the tunnel of the 60 MW Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower project. The rescue operations have involved collaboration with foreign technical teams from India, China, and South Korea.
In a separate incident, a 64-year-old woman named Chandrika Shrestha was rescued from her home in the flood-affected Betrawati market in Nuwakot. She was found unconscious and was subsequently airlifted to the Nepalese Army’s Maithili Barracks for medical attention.
The situation remains critical as rescue efforts continue in the affected areas, with many still awaiting assistance.
