Chennai, August 15: Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay pledged on Saturday to firmly protect the interests and constitutional rights of Tamil Nadu, while also committing to establish a transparent, people-centric, and corruption-free administration.
After hoisting the national flag, Vijay delivered his inaugural Independence Day speech from Fort St. George. He stated that his government would cooperate with the central government on administrative matters that benefit the people of Tamil Nadu. However, he emphasized a strong opposition to any actions that could harm the state’s interests or violate its rights.
Paying tribute to the freedom fighters and national heroes who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence, Vijay remarked that the true spirit of freedom can only be felt when people unite against oppression and rise above discrimination based on caste, religion, language, and race.
The Chief Minister asserted that transparency, truth, and integrity would remain guiding principles of his administration. The government has taken steps to prevent public revenue from falling into private hands and to eliminate bribery and corruption at all levels.
Highlighting his government’s welfare initiatives, Vijay announced the strengthening and expansion of the ‘Amma Unavagam’ network and breakfast scheme to benefit more people. He also mentioned the allocation of funds for crop loan waivers and the ‘Kuruvai’ farming package to assist farmers.
Vijay declared that 717 Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation liquor shops have been closed, and the process of computerizing the corporation’s administration is underway. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and ensure better oversight of operations.
The Chief Minister noted that law and order situations are being closely monitored. Government officials have been instructed to treat citizens visiting government offices with respect and courtesy. He stressed that people should not be forced to wander around to access services or resolve complaints.
Reiterating his vision for development, Vijay stated that continuous efforts would be made to transform Tamil Nadu into a model state and elevate its standards to those of developed countries.
Earlier, the Chief Minister left his residence in Neelankarai around 8 AM and arrived at Fort St. George for the official ceremony, where he received a formal guard of honor and inspected the police parade from an open jeep. He hoisted the flag at approximately 8:45 AM, marking his first Independence Day flag-raising ceremony since taking office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
