Ranchi, August 15: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren celebrated the 80th Independence Day by hoisting the national flag at the historic Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi. Following the flag hoisting, he inspected the parade and addressed the citizens of the state. The Chief Minister reassured the youth that his government would take concrete steps to safeguard their hard work and future.
He emphasized that efforts to ensure transparency in recruitment exams would not be compromised. Appointments through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and other recruitment agencies will be made in a timely manner. An annual examination calendar will be released, and arrangements will be made to provide OMR sheets and answer keys promptly. He stated that any corrupt practices or irregularities would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against the offenders.
In his address, the Chief Minister began by paying tribute to the country’s freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He also honored Jharkhand’s immortal heroes such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Siddhu-Kanu, Chand-Bhairav, Tilka Manjhi, Phoolo-Jhano, Neelambar-Peetambar, and Sheikh Bhikhari. He recalled the struggles of Shibu Soren, noting that his entire life was dedicated to protecting water, forests, land, and tribal identity.
The Chief Minister remarked that while the nation celebrates its 80th anniversary of independence, Jharkhand is entering its 25th year since formation. This marks a significant opportunity for the state to determine its future direction. Referring to the ongoing student protests regarding recruitment exams, he acknowledged the incidents of paper leaks in different parts of the country but asserted that Jharkhand would not shy away from its responsibilities.
To improve the examination system, the government has launched the “Students’ Voice with Students” campaign. This initiative aims to gather suggestions from students, teachers, and experts to make necessary changes within the regulatory framework. The Chief Minister stated that the government’s goal is not just to fill government positions but also to create new employment opportunities in sectors like MSMEs, agriculture, dairy, fisheries, tourism, digital services, and startups.
Highlighting Jharkhand’s development model, he noted that the world is currently grappling with climate change and environmental protection challenges, while Jharkhand’s traditional lifestyle has been based on a balance with nature for centuries. He asserted that the state’s identity should be defined not only by mineral wealth extraction but also by a model based on sustainable development, traditional knowledge, and social justice.
He shared that the government is working to connect lac, tasar, medicinal plants, and minor forest products with better markets. Efforts are being made to increase the income of families involved through value addition and branding. A new development framework will be created by integrating village assemblies, local knowledge, and modern technology.
