New Delhi, August 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 13th consecutive time on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. This year’s speech lasted 75 minutes, marking it as the shortest address on Independence Day in the past four years. Additionally, it ranks as the fourth shortest speech in PM Modi’s history of Independence Day addresses.
In 2025, he delivered the longest speech at 103 minutes. Previous years saw speeches of approximately 90 minutes in 2023 and 98 minutes in 2024. This year’s address focused on the nation’s future, outlining clear goals for the youth and highlighting economic priorities. With this 13th speech, PM Modi has become the second Prime Minister to hoist the national flag and address the nation from the Red Fort more times than any other leader since Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
The theme for the 80th Independence Day was ‘Youth Power for Developed India 2047.’ PM Modi emphasized the message of ‘Seven Streams of Power’ and ‘Think Big, Resolve Big.’ He stated, “Dear countrymen, when I talk about a developed India and advancing our nation rapidly, who benefits the most? The greatest source of inspiration behind all these efforts is our youth. They play a significant role in the journey towards a developed India.”
Throughout his speech, PM Modi reiterated the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. He also made special mention of ‘Vande Mataram,’ as this year marks the 150th anniversary of the national song, which was sung in full for the first time at the Red Fort.
He remarked that a nation becomes great when it achieves its aspirations and moves forward based on its dreams, resolutions, and capabilities. He urged the nation to abandon small dreams, stating that we must envision larger goals as they expand our thinking and horizons.
