Raipur, July 21 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across Chhattisgarh on Monday, with very heavy downpours expected in 17 districts by July 23. The forecast indicates five consecutive days of rainfall in the Bastar division, raising concerns of flooding in several low-lying areas, including Raipur and nearby districts.

Tragic Incident at Rani Dahra Waterfall, Kawardha
In a heartbreaking turn of events, one tourist lost his life and another remains missing after being swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross a submerged bridge near the Rani Dahra Waterfall in Kawardha district. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, following sudden and intense rainfall that caused a rapid rise in water levels.
Five tourists were caught in the surging flow while crossing the bridge. While three individuals were rescued safely, Narendra Pal, a 45-year-old resident of Mungeli, was found dead nearly 3 kilometers downstream from the waterfall. One person is still missing, and rescue operations by local authorities and SDRF teams are currently underway.
Other Weather-Related Incidents Across the State
Heavy rains have led to flood-like conditions in the Dalli Rajhara region, where one cow was swept away in a fast-moving stream. The Dalli Rajhara–Antagarh railway line has been submerged due to waterlogging, disrupting train services and impacting regional connectivity.
The state government has placed disaster response teams on high alert, especially in regions prone to landslides, overflowing rivers, and damaged infrastructure.
