Mumbai, March 6: Actress Celina Jaitly shared an emotional post on Instagram, reflecting on the ups and downs of her life, her time abroad, and her struggles with identity. In her post, she expressed feelings of emptiness and sadness upon returning to India.
Celina noted that spending a significant amount of time abroad can lead to confusion about one’s roots and identity, especially when compared to the memories of her childhood spent with her parents. She drew a parallel between the natural beauty of Austria’s Alps and her childhood memories of the Kumaon mountains and forests. However, she also revealed that despite living abroad for years, she was often recognized merely as “Peter’s Indian wife.”
She wrote, “After marrying Peter Haag, I settled in Australia and then Austria, but over time, the feeling of home has diminished.”
Recalling her mother’s words, she stated, “You cannot find the same person twice, not even the same person. The time spent with my mother was my most cherished. Now that my parents and family members are no longer here, the old home and feelings do not return. Sometimes, people do not want to heal because the pain becomes the last connection to what is lost.”
As a soldier’s daughter, Celina spent her childhood in various places without a permanent home. Yet, her parents provided love and joy wherever they went. She expressed, “Now, due to my foreign marriage and family, I feel like I have no home. I am neither fully Indian nor fully foreign. I am a part of two worlds, but the truth is that no place feels completely like home anymore.”
Celina described her mountains, forests, tigers, and childhood memories as integral parts of her home. She had hoped that returning to India would rekindle that sense of belonging, but everything has changed. She concluded, “Now I ask myself, where do I truly belong?”
