Man Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Newborn Daughter in Karnataka

Belagavi, March 20: A man was arrested in Karnataka’s Belagavi district on Friday for allegedly poisoning his 15-day-old daughter. Reports indicate that the motive behind this tragic act was the child’s gender. The police confirmed the arrest.

The suspect, identified as Bhimarya Chippade, was apprehended by Kakati police. This incident occurred on March 17 in the village of Ukkad, Belagavi taluka. The child’s mother, Sheila, filed a complaint at the Kakati police station after her daughter died under suspicious circumstances. Concerns grew as family members accused the father of being involved in the child’s death. Following the incident, the suspect went missing, prompting police to launch a search operation that led to his arrest. Authorities have begun further questioning of the accused.

Sheila alleged that when Chippade visited to see the baby, he had a small tube with him. Shortly after he left their home, the baby suddenly died. Initial investigations revealed that the suspect may have used pesticides to harm his daughter.

According to police sources, Chippade, a daily wage laborer, married Sheila about a year ago and reportedly had a strong desire for a male child. It is said that he was distressed after the birth of his daughter 15 days prior. He visited his wife at her parental home and left shortly after seeing the baby, after which her health deteriorated.

The family rushed the infant to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Initial suspicions suggest that a pesticide commonly used for cotton crops may have been administered to the child.

Authorities stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination. The body has been sent to the morgue for further procedures. Senior police officials, including DCP Narayan Bharamani, Belagavi rural ACP, and Kakati CPI, visited the scene to conduct an investigation.
