Liverpool, March 20: Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that star forward Mohamed Salah will not participate in the upcoming Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion due to a muscle injury.
Salah sustained this injury during Liverpool’s recent UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray at Anfield. He was substituted in the second half, despite delivering an impressive performance that included a goal and an assist in the 4-0 victory.
Providing an update on Salah’s injury ahead of the match against Brighton, Slot stated that the forward will not be available for the next game. He also mentioned the timing of Salah’s injury, saying, “The good news for Liverpool is that we are going into the international break, but the bad news for Egypt is that he won’t be able to join them.” However, the Liverpool boss remains hopeful that Salah will recover quickly, noting that the forward’s fitness level and professional attitude could aid in his early return to the pitch.
Discussing Salah’s performance against Galatasaray, Slot remarked, “His first half was not bad; the whole team played well.” He emphasized that a strong team performance often brings out the best in individual players. Slot praised Salah’s experience and his ability to remain calm and perform well under pressure, a trait he has consistently demonstrated throughout his career.
This injury marks another setback for the club this season, presenting Slot with a challenging decision on who will replace the right-wing player. Meanwhile, defender Joe Gomez’s fitness also remains a concern. Although he was on the bench during the match against Galatasaray, Slot indicated that Gomez is unlikely to be fully fit for the upcoming match.
Liverpool currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League standings as they prepare to face Brighton. The club is striving to secure a spot in the top four, which would guarantee their place in the UEFA League for the 2026-27 season. They are currently two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and five points behind third-placed Manchester United.
