CBI Uncovers Human Trafficking Network for Cyber Slavery in India

Mumbai, May 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dismantled an organized network allegedly trafficking Indian citizens into cyber slavery in Southeast Asian countries. Raids were conducted at nine locations across four states, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.

The investigation revealed that this network lured individuals with promises of high-paying jobs abroad. Victims were subsequently sent to scam compounds in countries like Myanmar and Cambodia. These locations are reported to be hubs for international cybercrime, where individuals are forced into online fraud.

Sources indicate that strict restrictions were imposed on the movement of victims within these compounds, with passports confiscated upon arrival. Instances of physical and mental abuse have also been confirmed. Some victims were coerced into soliciting ransom from their families for their release.

The CBI coordinated raids in Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Kashipur, and the Gonda and Saharanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh. This operation followed extensive investigations and the collection of victim testimonies across the country.

The agency has also conducted a thorough examination of financial transactions, particularly payments made through cryptocurrency, to uncover the full extent of the network. During the raids, several electronic devices were seized, which are believed to contain crucial evidence.

One individual from Lucknow has been arrested, accused of playing an active role in this trafficking network. Preliminary investigations suggest that agents were compensated by the operators of the scam compounds for supplying Indian citizens.

The CBI has urged the public to remain vigilant against attractive job offers abroad, whether they come through social media, acquaintances, or online advertisements. Falling into such traps poses risks not only of financial and physical exploitation but also potential legal issues.
