New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its efforts against digital arrest crimes under “Operation Chakra-6,” resulting in the arrest of five individuals accused of accepting millions of rupees obtained through fraudulent means. These arrests follow coordinated raids across 89 locations in 20 states, targeting three significant cases of digital arrest fraud identified in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
With these latest arrests, the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with these cases has risen to eight. The CBI continues its pursuit of additional suspects linked to this extensive network.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sandeep Bastwar, Pankaj Damade, Arif alias King Bhai, Harish Purushottam Yadav alias Harry, and Shashank Singh alias Ravi. According to the agency, Sandeep Bastwar and Pankaj Damade, residents of Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, fraudulently obtained a bank account to deposit funds acquired through digital arrests. They actively participated in laundering the money by transferring it across various accounts.
Arif, Harish, and Shashank were involved in arranging the bank account used to siphon money from victims of digital arrest scams. They allegedly installed a malicious APK file on the account holder’s mobile phone, enabling them to intercept bank SMS alerts and operate the account covertly.
The CBI has indicated that the investigation is uncovering the larger organized network to which these individuals belong, revealing the intricate methods used for financial transactions. Previously, following directives from the Supreme Court, the CBI conducted simultaneous raids across 20 states to combat the syndicates behind the rising issue of digital arrests. The Supreme Court had taken serious note of the expanding scope of these crimes and instructed the CBI to take stringent action against the offenders and their supporting networks.
