Ranchi, June 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Chief Storekeeper of the Regional Store located in the Barkas Sayal area of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in Ramgarh, Jharkhand, for alleged bribery.
On Sunday, the CBI registered a case against the accused following a complaint. The complaint alleged that the officer demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant. This bribe was solicited in exchange for allowing the complainant to continue his duties as a security guard, considering his medical condition.
The CBI set a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant. Additionally, searches are being conducted at the accused’s office and residence. The CBI is continuing its investigation related to this case.
It is noteworthy that a similar operation was conducted by the CBI on June 14 in Assam, where a Senior Section Engineer of the Northeast Frontier Railway was arrested for accepting a bribe. The engineer was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant.
In this case, a complaint was filed against the government official, who was to be presented in court on Sunday. According to CBI officials, the railway engineer had demanded a bribe to pass a bill. The bill, amounting to approximately ₹20 lakh, was pending approval with the accused officer.
When the complainant approached the Senior Section Engineer to get the invoice processed, the accused demanded an illegal bribe equivalent to one percent of the total outstanding bill amount. The CBI set a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was accepting ₹20,000 in bribes. Following this, the accused was arrested.
