New Delhi, June 15: The issue surrounding the misuse of donations at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya is escalating. Advocate Anoop Awasthi has written to the Chief Justice of India, urging the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the matter. He insists that an FIR should be filed first, followed by an independent investigation under the court’s supervision.
In his letter, Awasthi emphasized the need to maintain public trust by directing the filing of an FIR and initiating a court-monitored inquiry.
Speaking to a news agency, Awasthi reiterated that the petition calls for an independent investigation into the allegations of misuse related to donations at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. He stated that to uphold public confidence, it is essential to register an FIR and issue directives for an independent investigation under judicial oversight.
He highlighted that this issue is closely tied to the faith of millions of devotees. Recent reports of alleged irregularities, misuse, or theft of funds related to the temple have raised concerns among devotees both in India and abroad. Although the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Awasthi argues that this measure alone is insufficient. Without oversight from a constitutional court, many devotees may question the impartiality of the investigation.
Awasthi pointed out that while donations have been received in the past without any issues, the current scrutiny, especially after the commencement of worship, suggests that some individuals may be involved in wrongdoing. He has learned that several individuals associated with the temple have significantly improved their living conditions, raising further suspicions.
He concluded by stating that it is crucial to ensure that no message is conveyed to the public suggesting that certain individuals are being protected, hence the need for a thorough investigation.
