Brutal Attack on Woman by Mob in Madhya Pradesh Sparks Outrage

Jhabua, April 14: A shocking incident of mob violence has emerged from the tribal region of Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh. Villagers publicly humiliated and brutally attacked a woman, leading to widespread condemnation.

The incident occurred on Monday in the village of Balawasa, under the jurisdiction of Kaknawani police station. Reports indicate that the married woman was accused by members of her community of eloping with another man.

Instead of seeking legal recourse, a group of villagers allegedly took the law into their own hands, subjecting her to public humiliation and physical abuse as a form of severe punishment.

The brutality of the attack came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media on Tuesday, prompting immediate action from local police.

Initial reports suggest that the woman was forced to carry her husband on her shoulders while being paraded around the village. During this procession, she was reportedly beaten with sticks and struck with slaps and punches.

The video, recorded on mobile phones, shows bystanders watching the incident unfold, raising serious concerns about the passivity of witnesses and the normalization of such violence.

In a further act of humiliation, the attackers shaved the woman’s head after the procession. The widely circulated video has drawn significant outrage, leading authorities to take swift action.

Police arrested four individuals from Balawasa: Surya Bhuriya, Dilip Bhuriya, Babu Bhuriya, and Shailesh Bhuriya. A police official confirmed that multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code have been invoked against the accused.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Pratipal Singh Mahobia, stated that the police located the victim after the video surfaced and provided her with protection.

This incident has sparked widespread anger and highlights the dangers of social pressures that often sideline the rule of law, particularly in rural areas. It underscores the urgent need for awareness and robust institutional mechanisms to protect women’s dignity and rights.
